“Meanwhile, for the first time last week, John LoPresti treated himself to a polishing at John Allan’s in Manhattan, which bills itself as a men’s grooming club. Since LoPresti isn’t a club member – dues are $720 a year – he paid $65 (excluding tips) for a scalp-massaging shampoo, conditioning treatment, hot towel, haircut, manicure and shoe shine and a free beer. LoPresti found the “hoity-toity” treatment enjoyable and worth it.”
